Mini Canvases, Set of 4, Mixed Media Tutorial (Lots of Pictures)

So, there's a swap going on, and it involved using mini canvases. It was mentioned that there would be 4-5 people in a group with which to swap, so I headed to Michael's to get some mini canvases... When I got there, they had *one* pack of 3x3 canvases remaining in stock, and the pack came with 4 in it, so I decided: What the hell? Worst case scenario is if I need to make one more, it'll be similar anyway since none of the canvases are identical.

I tried to use up the product I received in my December Flying Unicorn mixed media kits since I have so much left and I really need to get to using them up!

Here is the step-by-step process of me creating these canvases! FYI - The Prima trinket sign things are placed there in order to keep the canvases in the right order. By the time I was done creating, I knew which was which, but for photographing purposes, I kept them in the same place. :)

One of the December kits from Flying Unicorn included this grey mesh trim.
I used it as texture on all the canvases.
I added gesso over top of the mesh trim.
Used up all the Prima resin pieces we got in one of our Dec kits - One piece per canvas.
Using one of the 13Arts stencils we received in our kits, I added texture to the opposite side of the stencil on each canvas.
It looked a little boring in comparison to the other side. LOL
Time to start adding colour!
I used the silver gelato that we got in our kits for the edges of the canvases.
I used the gold gelato that we received on top of the resin piece.
I used the Lindy's Flat Fabio "I'm Late, I'm Late Slate" that we got in our kits to add some background colour.
I honestly don't think I like this colour very much, but I like that it added a hint of dimension to the modeling paste I used with the stencil.
This is probably the only time I used my own products.
I felt that the resin pieces needed more pop, so I added hints of Silks Acrylic glaze in "Emperor's Gold", and highlighted it in the Silks Acrylic glaze in "Black Ice".
I used the Inka Gold in colour "Haematite" to add a bit more darkness to the edges as well.
More texture!
I added some cut-in-half large Prima flowers and some smaller prima flowers from the "Epiphany" collection to the canvases.
There was added darkness to the edges, but not enough on the actual canvas, so I chose to use the 13Arts Ayeeda Ink in "Black" with the eyedropper tool that it comes with.
Then, it was almost too much black, so I went back over some spots with my finger using gesso. :)
Then I added the labels that were keeping the canvases identified, and voila!

Scrap Africa Sketch Challenge Entry

Along with my previous "first" blog entry (First Finnabair inspired creation), this time I'm entering a sketch challenge on Scrap Africa for the first time. :)

I'm honestly not sure how I came to find out about it, but I attended a crop yesterday where the sketch is essentially what tugged at my creative strings in order to leave the crop with something completed.

I used product received in my December Flying Unicorn mixed art kit including the canvas board, the 13 arts paper, the chipboard frame, the sprays, the stencil, the pan pastel and the petaloo flower pack!

The sketch I used was:

And the resulting creation looks like this:

Thanks so much for stopping by - I really appreciate it!

Finnabair Inspired Mixed Media Altered Canvas

Thank you for dropping by today!

I've completed a Finnabair style canvas for a swap I'm in that I'd like to share with you!

I have created a start-to-finish video with some of the detail behind my thought process as well that you can find here:

I thought I'd add a few more still shots to this blog post over what is in the video since sometimes it's easier to view on certain platforms. :)

Yay for pictures!

Thanks so much for dropping by!
