Mini Mixed Media Canvases Again! Set of 6! Tutorial Inside (Lots of Pics!)

My love for mixed media is really coming loose these days.  I'm loving being able to use what I have and make wonderfully pretty things! I have So. Many. Things. so it's seriously nice to go through my stash and use things up as I find them!

Here is another set of canvases I've created, with a tutorial!

Most of these things can be purchased from the Flying Unicorn store - I received most of the product used in past monthly kits from the Flying Unicorn. :)

The tutorial starts... now!

This is where I started  - A 6-pack of 2" x 2" canvases!

Here, you can see that I've used two packs of Prima wooden icons from two different collections. I thought it appropriate when I spotted the "LOVE" icons for these canvases!!  I added the frame to add more depth.

Here I used my 13arts stencil that I can't get enough of to create a lined background on the canvas to add  texture!
I gesso'd each wooden icon individually since I wasn't exactly sure the route I was taking for these canvases.

Here I sprayed all the canvases and wooden icon pieces with the "I'm late slate" Lindy's spray. I just kept adding layers, until I ran out of the spray. So happy to call it done!

In this pic, I 'm not sure how well it will show on different people's screens, but I did use this PanPastel cake thingie to add much shimmer to the canvas.
More colour & shine  was needed, so I added some of the BoBunny copper glitter paste  to the canvas, frames and the edges of the word LOVE.
After adding the BoBunny paste, I used my 13arts spray on some cheesecloth. Then I layered the cheesecloth on the canvas under the frame and the word love, and then sprayed the canvases each with one spritz of the 13arts spray.

The canvases looked lacking in glimmer, so I went over each canvas again with the PanPastel cake thingie!

This is the final result. As you can see, I added two tiny rosebuds and added the BoBunny glitter paste to those as well.  :)

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Mixed Media Canvas for Flying Unicorn

It's not often that I post a blog post with a creation that isn't required for a challenge, however I felt the need to post this one because it's not something I do often (yet?).

This is an altered canvas that I created based on the Mojo Monday sketch that was posted over on the Flying Unicorn forums.

I also entered this creation into the Mid-month Mxed Media challenge also over on the Flying Unicorn forums.

I created this canvas using the products in the Mixed Art kit from the Flying Unicorn store!  I am So. Happy. with the way it turned out, and it is currently hanging on the wall  in my bedroom. :)

Quad challenge entry !!

I don't think I've ever managed an entry into 4 challenges at once before, but here I go!

This blog post contains my layout with my entry into the following challenges!!

This challenge is a sketch based challenge! I finished my entry into the challenge for sketch #83 a few hours earlier, and I'm really taking a liking to their sketches! I didn't rotate this sketch however!

Although a relatively new challenge series, I figured with my mixed media kick in high gear, I would enter this layout into this challenge as well.  We were required to use stencils and pastes! I went ahead and used the Tim Holtz splatter stencil and mixed some modeling paste with some acrylic paint in order to give me coloured paste to use with the stencil!

The theme for the challenge over at Scrap It Girl, was arrows and #'s.  Both of which I have on my layout, so I thought it worked well as an entry into this challenge. :)

I think this may have been my first time using an image as my inspiration in addition to a sketch.  The image was super cute and as soon as I saw it, I thought primaries (i.e. primary colours). That's exactly why I chose to lay the layers of splatter down the way I did on a neutral background page.
The inspiration photo was:

And now, after all of the challenge introductions, here is my layout!

I think one of the reasons I so love the mixed media vibe, is that I'm using things I wouldn't use frequently enough otherwise. :)

For example, on this layout alone, I used modeling paste, acrylic paint, a stencil, Silks shimmer paints, splattering techniques, ripped layered papers and just so much *stuff*. But not TOO much so that I can't put my layout in a page protector, but enough to give the page some dimension. I'm really digging it!!
