A new sketch challenge to enter

It's my first time hearing about Pals Paper Arts, and now that I *have* heard about them, guess what that means...??  More sketch challenge entries! LOL

Ok, Ok, here was the sketch they provided us with this month. :)

I tried to stick to the sketch pretty closely; There's another pink layer under the typographic background to make up all the layers for 1, 2 & 3. And for 4, I've added the bordered sentiment to the card in the lower left hand corner. :)

A Final Sketch to be Seized

(Almost) Nothing to see here folks. Just another card made using the Prim Optimist collection. LOL
-- Just kidding --

This is a special card with it being the last entry to a Seize the Sketch challenge. :(
I don't make the rules, I just follow them, and that's the word on the blog.  /sigh

The sketch for August was super simple and I loved it because of it's simplicity.

Okay, well actually at first I saw it and saw all the "white space" on it and thought to myself, how am I going to make this work with the Optimist collection!  No sooner did I start going through the embellishments, did I come up with this cutie of a card!

Super simple and, in my opinion, it holds a powerful message as well. :)  I'm glad I decided to start playing around to the beat of this sketch to get something made. I really like how it turned out in the end!

Thanks for taking the time to drop by!

Mojoful Prima PPP entry!

Whoa! What is this?!  A Prima Princess project?! Where is the Optimist stuff that I was supposed to be working through?! Bad Kerry! LOL

In all honesty though, this card is a Prima Princess card since the Prima Product Picks Palette for the August challenge happens to work nicely with this collection. :)

Because I used the tall & skinny Mojo Monday sketch #360, I was able to use just over half of one of the A4 sheets from the collection to make the card base.

Then I used one of the chipboard pieces, a flower, 3 leaves and some of the crystals from the collection to finish it off. :)

The inside is also a tad papered because the paper is so light, but I didn't take a picture of it, since it was a tad plainer.

Thanks for dropping by and taking a looksee!

Freshly Made for the month of August!

Sick of all the Prima Optimist I have for all of you???!?!?

No? Not Yet?  Good!  I have a feeling there's even more to come. LOL

This sketch is featured on the Freshly Made Sketches blog for August 2014.
And I went and took it and turned it into this card:

I'm loving how bright these seemingly dark papers can end up!  But I *am* running out of Optimist embellishments, and as someone who keeps kits and collections together, I don't know how much more I can get out of these Optimist related supplies! Lol

I'll try to keep the cards coming as long as I've got the product to do so!

Retro Sketches for August 2014

The retro sketches challenge always appeals to me because of how the sketch is drawn. I don't know why, but I love that it does have such a hand-drawn look to it!

Like, I mean, I know it's a digital image, but it still has a homegrown feel to it. :)

Anyway, moving on to another Prima Optimist card that I've created from my arsenal of 6x6 Prima paper pads:

The little banner was made from a cut out that I fussy out from the cut out sheet and the "Love Life" main sentiment is actually one of the ATC cards from the Optimist collection that I've simply cut down and re-rounded the corners to make it fit on the front of the card. :)

Thanks for dropping in!

For my fellow Atlantic Canucks

In my search for inspirational challenges for August, I found the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!

I was thrilled to find another Canadian challenge blog, so I felt personally obligated to join in the fun there (along with using up my older Prima stash. :P

The sketch that they are asking us to play with is:
I love challenges where the project is not restricted to a certain type, just as long as the sketch is followed. :)
Because I'm trying to plow through (possibly) 2 - 6x6 paper pads from the Prima Optimist collection, I opted for a card. And it is posted right here!

I used some packaging for the backing of my sentiments and some Stampin Up ribbon for the side bow thing. There's also some Prima Optimist brads, and  one of the wood veneer pieces behind the ribbon!

Thanks so much for dropping by and checking out my card!

August Prima BAP Sketch Challenge

Within my top 3 paper crafting companies, is Prima Marketing. The quality is always top notch, the embellishments are made to coordinate perfectly, and the variety of styles within each collection is always vast enough to pretty much cover almost any kind of project you want.

So anyway, I'm a *huge* Prima fan!  And this month I decided to enter the August BAP sketch challenge with a card I made!  Yes, I know there are two cards shown in the post, but I promise, I only started with one, and then I wanted to use up some more scarps and I'm trying to go through my stash, so yes, I ended up with two. :P

And my take on the sketch goes something like this:

All of the products are Prima *except* the flowers. I did not end up buying the flowers for the Optimist collection but I do have tons of the 6x6 papers. After I finished the card, I thought that I could have made flowers fro m the paper since I have so much of it, but that was an after thought and something I may work on tonight to build a flower stash for this collection. :)

Anyway, thanks for dropping by!!

Life. Paper. Scrapbook. A double whammy entry.

This post is a little bit special for a few reasons -

  1. L. P. S. has shared that this is the last challenge for a little while (hopefully very little). :(
  2. I'm pretty sure this is my first "real" mixed media canvas.
  3. I've finally taken a bite into my BoBunny Enchanted Garden collection!
The sketch that I was trying to keep to was:

And the mood board that I sparked my Bobunny fire was:

See those purples and blues at the bottom? That's where I picked my main inspiration from. The colours in the palette on the bottom right of the mood board is what led me to go with the bottom colour palettes because the photos themselves have a lot of those right most palette colours! w00t!

Without further delay, here is my entry into these challenges!

The whole canvas at a top down view.
Bottom right from the bottom of the canvas.
Bottom right from the right side of the canvas.
Top left from the top of the canvas.
Top left from the left side of the canvas.
Bottom left from the bottom of the canvas.

I can't wait to finally drop this off for my friend! I've been letting him know I'll be making him something for his desk at work for ages... And FINALLY got to it. LOL, I'm such a bad friend. :P

Thanks for sharing my love of BoBunny today!!

Yesterday was definitely Mojo Monday :)

And being Mojo Monday, I had to head over to the Mojo Monday challenge blog and create a card based on their sketch #359!

I think I followed the sketch pretty closely, minus where the sentiment is. :)

I don't often do out of the box things on cards since things usually don't end up going in that direction, but THIS time, I went way out to left field and stamped on the cloth trim that came in the Studio Calico card kit with the stamp that also came in the same kit. :)

Then I went over it with one of my 80+ gel pens that I have, to add some emphasis!

Colours and Sketches?? Check!

Presenting to you, my entry for the CAS (Colours and Sketches) challenge #87!

Here is my second attempt at a filled gumball machine...

In my very humble opinion, if I wasn't going to make the sequins move, I think, in hindsight, that I should have bunched them all at the bottom of the candy bowl thing, right?  Well, these here candies are the floating kind. :P Lol

Sketch Saturday card sketch challenge entry

I thought you guys could use seeing some more cards... Just a few more today. LOL

This one is for my entry into the Sketch Saturday challenge #323.

My take on the sketch...

I think this was actually one of the last cards I made last night...  I used a block of one of the papers in the Studio Calico card kit and turned it into my sentiment kind of. :)

Fusion Card Challenge entry

The last entry I have from this past weekends' creations is this card as my entry into the Fusion Card challenge!

At first, I was thinking of only using the sketch - HOWEVER, as I started looking at the papers from the card kit from this month, I realized that many of the colours coordinated perfectly when compared to the colour palette in the photo, so that makes this a... FUSION challenge! *ba dum cha*

See?! Aren't the colours just SO appropriate for this card/sketch fusion??!?! :D

Thanks for dropping by!!

Freshly Made in the knick of time!

Good thing I'm getting these entries uploaded today!  This challenge closes in less than an hour of this post being published! LOL

This challenge entry is made for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #149.

My card made for this challenge goes something like this:

If you happened to see my haul video from this month's kit, you may be aware that I got a sheet of acetate with it. As a result of receiving this acetate, I attempted to make a shaker card... In my opinion it was a #craftfail, but it was also my very first shaker card ever made.

I have a couple more variations of this gumball machine that haven't made it on to cards yet, but this was the first attempt.. /sigh

Thanks for pitying my shaker card attempt. LOL

A CAS(E) challenge entry!

Yep, another post with another card into yet another entry using, yet again, the Studio Calico card kit from this month!

This card is an entry into the CAS(E) card sketch challenge #88.

My version of the sketch goes like this!

I fussy cut the shapes from one of the papers, and adhered it to the black background paper so as to provide a pop of colour to the otherwise quite dark background. The sentiment is taken from a sheet in the paper pad with a white background, and I used it because I liked the contrast. :)

Card Made for Retro Sketches Challenge #128

Lots of posts to be had today! Don't mind, I'm just plowing through my Studio Calico card kit for this month since it happens to already be just over a week until reveal night, which means I should be seeing my next kit in a couple weeks! Yikes!

The card that I made for this post was created as an entry into the Retro Sketches challenge over on the Retro Sketches blog!

Using the items in my SC card kit, I came up with something like this!

Now let me tell you how much I'm *not* a fan of sequins... But I am going through the whole kit and nothing but the kit as long as I have supplies to use. LOL

Thanks for dropping by!

A "boring" layout to share

Ok, so it's not boring but it is not mixed media. Lol. And since I've been on a mixed media kick recently, it feels kind of weird. :P

I know the picture doesn't show up too well with the contrast situation - It didn't look this bright on my phone. Ugh.

So this layout is my entry into two challenges!

The first challenge, is the sketch challenge over at ScrapMuch?.
I think this time around I followed the sketch very closely (after rotating it 180 degrees).

For a bit more guidance on my layout, I decided to also try out the August colour challenge over at Creating with Paper and More.

You needed to use at least 3 of the 4 colours on the colour board, and I think I accomplished that pretty well too. :) I even threw in the heart to pull in that last colour! :D

I used my liquid pearl in onyx on top of the wood veneer title... I think I'm going to be very sad once those lowercase wood veneer letters are finished!

I really appreciate you dropping by today!

Quad challenge entry !!

I don't think I've ever managed an entry into 4 challenges at once before, but here I go!

This blog post contains my layout with my entry into the following challenges!!

This challenge is a sketch based challenge! I finished my entry into the challenge for sketch #83 a few hours earlier, and I'm really taking a liking to their sketches! I didn't rotate this sketch however!

Although a relatively new challenge series, I figured with my mixed media kick in high gear, I would enter this layout into this challenge as well.  We were required to use stencils and pastes! I went ahead and used the Tim Holtz splatter stencil and mixed some modeling paste with some acrylic paint in order to give me coloured paste to use with the stencil!

The theme for the challenge over at Scrap It Girl, was arrows and #'s.  Both of which I have on my layout, so I thought it worked well as an entry into this challenge. :)

I think this may have been my first time using an image as my inspiration in addition to a sketch.  The image was super cute and as soon as I saw it, I thought primaries (i.e. primary colours). That's exactly why I chose to lay the layers of splatter down the way I did on a neutral background page.
The inspiration photo was:

And now, after all of the challenge introductions, here is my layout!

I think one of the reasons I so love the mixed media vibe, is that I'm using things I wouldn't use frequently enough otherwise. :)

For example, on this layout alone, I used modeling paste, acrylic paint, a stencil, Silks shimmer paints, splattering techniques, ripped layered papers and just so much *stuff*. But not TOO much so that I can't put my layout in a page protector, but enough to give the page some dimension. I'm really digging it!!

Thanks so much for dropping by!!!

Three challenge entries in one!!!

I haven't combined challenge entries in a while, but this time I've made a layout for the following challenges:

For this challenge I felt prepared because this week I *just* had my selfies printed at costco as part of a collage thing I made to fit an 8 x 12 print. And these were from last month, so I'd say they're recent enough for this challenge since the goal was to celebrate your age right now. :)

This was the base of my layout, as the sketch greatly assisted in guiding me to placement of everything. :)
I really enjoyed this sketch - It felt different than any other sketch I've used!
The sketch for this challenge is as follows:

I finish off with this challenge as it gave me a reason to use up the embroidery thread that came in the grab bag from Studio Calico. :)
I used the whole length of it (1 yard, maybe?) to make a multi-layered bow, and then I finished it off by adding a star from the trim I got in the Studio Calico card making grab bag since it coordinated with my gold accenting on the layout!

Without further delay, here is my layout!! :D

This is one of my favourite mixed media layouts so far... I almost didn't go the MM route because I was trying to keep it relatively flat, but throw on some watercolours, stenciling, splatters and inking... And Ta-da!

Thanks so much for dropping by!
